Book Review: 50 Days of Hope by Lynn Eib

It is cancer. Those are three words that enter the lives of nearly everyone at some point—whether facing a personal diagnosis or facing the fight with a friend or loved one. Facing a critical illness, such as cancer, is one of the most difficult experiences that many will face—and one that has touched my own family more than once. I accepted the opportunity to read and review 50 Days of Hope by Lynn Eib, an inspirational book for those coping with cancer—and I wish I had read it 25 years ago when cancer first touched my life.

50 Days of Hope by Lynn Eib offers a daily dose of inspiration, faith and hope to readers. As a cancer survivor herself, Eib brings a wealth of experiences to her discussions of the many emotions, needs and difficulties facing cancer patients and their support network. Eib draws on her own feelings and experiences as both a cancer survivor and her work as a cancer patient advocate as the basis of each day of hope. As she has done in her other books, Eib encourages readers to explore the relationship of God and faith as part of the medical treatment process by offering a daily prayer of hope.

Eib faces cancer realistically and honestly—but, hopefully. The book, 50 Days of Hope, does not promise a happy ending to every reader who has faith—but, it encourages readers to create their own endings through hope and faith. She offers inspirational stories of survivors—which do have happy endings—but, is not afraid to admit her own dark fears and emotions throughout her own battle with colon cancer.

Lynn Eib’s 50 Days of Hope is more than a book of wisdom and inspiration for those impacted by cancer—it is truly a well, written, down to Earth, book of hope that can be equally applied to a variety of life situations. If you or someone you love is facing cancer, I would encourage you to pick up a copy of 50 Days of Hope by Lynn Eib. Read a passage a day—or find, as I did, that you are unable to put it down until it is finished.
