Music Review: Amelita by Court Yard Hounds

Have you heard Amelita, the new album from the Court Yard Hounds? You may have heard it, as I had, without even really realizing it. There was something familiar in the music that I couldn’t quite place at first! What did the family here in our little corner of the world think of Amelita?

Court Yard Hounds shine on Amelita. Court Yard Hounds is a band led by ex-Dixie Chicks sisters, Emily Robison and Martie Maguire--but, the ladies show a more grown up, positive approach to life and their music in the band’s second album. I knew that the music sounded familiar--yet different! I think fans of The Dixie Chicks will hear a few familiar, characteristic sounds of the sisters that remain unchanged--such as in the title track, Amelita--but, will also experience a little more of their talents and strengths as artists.

Would we recommend Amelita by the Court Yard Hounds? Court Yard Hounds offers something new to a wider audience. Even our younger daughters, who had literally never heard of The Dixie Chicks, enjoyed the sound of Court Yard Hounds. It’s a nice mix of pop and country that appeals to both new country fans and the younger pop generation.
