Children's Book Review: Cant Wait Willow! by Christy Ziglar

Instant gratification in a world of constant connections and split second decisions make parenting little ones even more difficult than ever.   How can we teach our children the value of waiting for big moments and joys without giving into little daily temptations?  We had the opportunity to review Can't Wait Willow by Christy Ziglar--and we have a copy to give away to one lucky reader!

Quick summary of Can't Wait Willow!  Can't Wait Willow! is the Shine Bright Kids book series. In this life-lesson sharing tale, Willow is so excited that the Over-the-Top Circus has finally come to town! The only problem is, that when left to her own devices, she can’t say “no” to some good things. On the way to the show, she is distracted by enticing treats and fun that she just can’t turn down. Willow arrives late and is sad to find that, not only has she has run out of time, but money, and she won’t be able to enjoy the pink cotton candy she’s been dreaming of. Willow is given valuable advice and a second chance and is ultimately taught the lesson that sometimes in life you have to say “no” to good things to end up with something great!

Can't Wait Willow is well written and beautifully illustrated. Our girls loved the story--and spent several minutes on each page talking about the pictures--and looking for the little star that follows Willow and reacts positively or negatively to Willow's decisions as she moves through the book. Readers of any age may relate to Willow. This book is the perfect segway for parents to discuss a variety of decision making topics from saving money to doing chores. I think my girls understood Willow's dilemas all too well! One of my daughters has a gift card to her favorite store, but it isn't quite enough to buy a moon chair that she has her eye on. Every time she's in the store, she is drawn to the earrings, necklaces, journals, and a host of other small items that she can afford to buy.....but, would take her further away from the "big" ticket item she really wants.

Would we recommend Can't Wait Willow? I loved this book as a parent. We are bombarded with so many choices each day and Can't Wait Willow does a wonderful job putting it into perspective in an easy to understand manner. I am looking forward to other books in this series!
