About the Book
Nicole Baker is a quiet girl - the type of person who is seldom noticed by anyone. That is until one day she discovers she has the unique ability to see images move on photographs. At first, she uses her ability to entertain friends at parties and work. Then senior detective Paul Hammond learns of her ability and enlists her help in a case of unsolved murders that he has not been able to make any headway on.
Carl Kadner, a rookie reporter with the local paper is investigating the murders as well. And he learns what it takes to be the kind of reporter he wants to be when he puts himself in danger for the sake of the story. It is only when Carl, Nicole and Detective Hammond pool their resources that things start making sense.
My Review
The Mind's Eye is a Page Turner--Once You Settle Into the Story. I had a tough time settling entirely into the story until I finished almost the first third of the book. This disconnect may have been because I was reading in the library's homework tutoring area while my daughter volunteered and I wasn't as focused as usual. But--for quite some time, I couldn't mold all of the characters into their spots on my own. Once the author began to let the characters and the stories merge, build and take shape, I loved it. Even when I was having some trouble visualizing how and where everything was going early on--the characters, their personalities, and the developing story still kept me interested and ready to turn each page. As the story grew--and the suspense of the novel grew--I couldn't put down the book. There were enough twists and surprises to hold my interest all the way to the end.
The Mind's Eye Doesn't Sugar Coat the Evil. A lot of this novel is pretty graphic in detail--which should not be a surprise since it is about a serial killer. The author truly depicts many of the scenes with some very realistic imagery. As readers form bonds with the characters, the genuine threats of violence, the darkness and fear, and suspense create an excellent read. The author does an excellent job of keeping his characters a bit real and grounded with some realistic dialogue, properly placed humor and sarcasm. The author creates a pretty dark story in The Mind's Eye--and does an excellent job of keeping his characters real enough to keep the story believable and intense.
Would I Recommend The Mind's Eye by Perry Prete? I loved this book after the author brought all of his characters and pieces together and launched the full story. I enjoyed the characters and their dialogue--and the bonds that formed as the story grew. Prete gave readers a lot of insights into the world of the killer--but, was still able to offer surprises and suspense. If you enjoy a unique murder mystery / serial killer thriller--with a paranormal gift, a lot of graphic, crime scene details--and a solid storyline with real surprises and suspense--I would certainly recommend The Mind's Eye. If you feel a little disconnected during the beginning chapters--give it time. The author pulls it all together quite well, and you will be glad you kept reading!

Perry continues to work full-time as a paramedic and uses his thirty plus years of life changing and sometimes dramatic experiences to bring realism to his gripping medical novels. His other works include, The Things That Matter Most and All Good Things.
He is also a business owner, specializing in the pre-hospital care field. His company sells medical equipment across North America, primarily to EMS agencies.
