Loads of Laughs at the New York Comedy Festival

The New York Comedy Festival (NYCF) is one of the most anticipated entertainment events of the year. People from all over the world come to all five of New York City’s boroughs to enjoy seven days of comedy and entertainment. Over the course of a week, more than 200 celebrity comedians entertain visitors at over 100 different shows!

It's quite obvious that the NYCF is something that you need to plan in advance for. Just getting a handle on what performers you want to see and making an itinerary (including travel time!) for seeing them can be a tough task in itself. Some of the biggest names attending this year’s NYCF include Nicole Byer, Stephen Colbert, Norm Macdonald, Bill Maher, Trever Noah, Jenny Slate, and Demetri Martin.

We’ll leave that part to you. This guide should help you find some of the best places to stay, the best ways to get around, and the best things to do during your trip to NYCF.

Where to Stay

Let's face it — staying in New York City can be expensive. Though you might think that staying within the city limits means that you are connected to everything, this isn't necessarily the case. In most situations, it's actually more convenient and cost-effective to stay in New Jersey’s urban center, just across the Hudson River from downtown Manhattan. Some of the nicest hotels are near Liberty State Park.

The Hyatt House Jersey City is one popular option. This hotel provides guests with beautiful rooms, comfy mattresses, and helpful amenities. The view over the Hudson is better than any you’d get if you actually stayed in Manhattan. The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Suites Jersey City is another good choice. Both hotels are just minutes away from the PATH train, which takes you right into Manhattan.

How to Get to the Event

It might seem inconvenient staying just outside of New York City, but you'd be surprised at how much easier it is to get to downtown Manhattan from New Jersey than it is from somewhere else in NYC like Brooklyn! Unless you're completely against public transit, we recommend that you take the train to get to the comedy festival.

Not only will you be able to take some stress off of your back by not having to drive through the city (NYC driving is difficult), but you'll also be able to see more of the city on your way there! All you have to do is take the PATH train from Jersey City to Lower Manhattan where you transfer to the 2 or 3 train. If you decide to continue traveling throughout Manhattan and exploring the various neighborhoods, we recommend taking public transit to get around. Rideshare apps work well to get around in a crunch when the subway isn’t convenient, but avoid taking long trips unless you have extra money budgeted.

Other Things to Do During Your Visit

If you're looking for places to eat during your visit to New York, there are a variety of different options that are geared to satisfy anyone's personal preference. For example, those looking to try some of the best ramen in the city should definitely go to Totto ramen, a restaurant located in Hell's Kitchen. Not only does this spot have some of the best ramen you'll find in the entire city, but it also has some of the most enticing pork buns! Just be sure to bring cash, though, because this restaurant does not take cards.

Because the New York Comedy Festival takes place in so many different theaters near midtown Manhattan, why not take some time during your visit to see a Broadway show? After all, it's not every day that you have the chance to be in NYC, so why not make the best of it?

If you're looking to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, we recommend taking a stroll through Central Park. Though it's technically a tourist destination, the park is large enough that if you walk long enough you'll find a part that is peaceful and relaxing. In fact, this can be one of the best ways to get comfort and isolation while in the middle of the action-packed city!
