My Review

Fun, Imaginative Story with a Helpful Message. The story is perfect for little ones worrying about moving from their friends and familiar surroundings. Children (and caregivers too) will readily relate to Molly's story as she shares her fears and worries over leaving her home and best friend behind as she moves away. Once Molly arrives in her new bedroom, the author creates a quick magical adventure for Molly as she begins life in her new home. The book offers a fun, imaginative way to show children that, while many things change with a move, many things also remain--especially some significant ones.

Real-World Problem Meets a Child-Friendly Fantasy.  The story is undoubtedly relatable to any family facing a move--whether across town or the country. The author does a great job showing how Molly's moving day turns out--and turns around from a sad event to an exciting one--in a simple, easy to read and understand story with bright illustrations and adorable characters and a bit of magical fantasy as her room comes to life.

Would I Recommend The Adventures of Molly & Ollie: Moving Day by Sally Beale? I love finding children's books that help families teach and guide when words from the parents or caregivers may just not be enough. Young children will easily relate to this story--from the sadness at the beginning to the smiles brought toward the end. The Adventures of Molly & Ollie: Moving Day is a great book to give as a gift to families with little ones facing a move.

About the Author

The Adventures of Molly & Ollie: Moving Day was inspired by Beale’s own experiences as a young child. Her father’s occupation required that her family move across the country every two years. Beale’s childhood was filled with adventures that captured her imagination in each new home. She continued her passion for adventure while raising her two daughters and working as a costume designer for local theaters. Now she is channeling her sense of fun and her youthful spirit into her children’s stories. Beale is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). The Adventures of Molly & Ollie: Moving Day, a Mom’s Choice Award winner, is the first book in the Molly & Ollie series.
