Quick Summary of Dark Pursuit.  From the International Award Winning EMILY STONE THRILLER SERIES: Vigilante detective Emily Stone has covertly hunted down killers and closed more serial cases than most seasoned homicide cops combined. Her exceptional profiling skills and forensic techniques, along with deductive crime scene investigations, have made her a compelling force that cannot be beat. She has reached her ultimate breaking point and now must face her toughest opponent yet – her biggest fears. With preciseness, the Tick-Tock Killer has taken his next child victim and promised to dump the body precisely four days later, mocking police and the community. Stone struggles to balance her inner demons and ghosts from the past, against the wits of a brutal and cunning serial killer in an all-out battle of psychological warfare. Can Stone save the next child in time? Dark Pursuit is an action-packed cat and mouse game that will take you to dark places rarely explored.

Dark Pursuit's Action Begins on Page 1.  The author launches readers into this book with an action packed car chase in the very first paragraph on the very first page.  Sometimes, such an abrupt thrust into the story leaves readers feeling a little disconnected from the characters and the storyline.  That could not be further from the case with this book!  Chase does a wonderful job introducing even new readers to the Emily Stone books' main characters as they move dramatically (and quickly) through the pages of the book.  Through well written details, dialogue and descriptive settings, the author weaves a very clear picture of the book's storyline and its characters through very fast-paced scenes.

Dark Pursuit is Difficult to Put Down.  I generally read books in short bursts...a chapter here; a chapter there.  Dark Pursuit completely caught my interest within a few pages--and I found myself carrying the book around with me until I finished it.  As the characters track a serial, child killer--Emily and her partner are faced with a lot of challenges.  Some challenges from the pursuit and from some internal battles as well.  Chase pulls readers into the pursuit, into the life (and past) of Emily Stone--and into her need to stop the killer.

Would I recommend Dark Pursuit by Jennifer Chase?  Dark Pursuit is a an Emily Stone book--but, is completely a stand-alone novel.  The author offers plenty of background into her characters to keep new readers to the series connected to the storyline and to the characters.  The storyline is very fast paced and action packed--and impossible to put down.  This is the first Emily Stone book I have read--but, it certainly won't be the last.  If you enjoy crime thrillers--Dark Pursuit is a great book to add to your summer reading list.
