Wet soccer fields, sunny tennis courts, freezing ice rinks, and jam-packed dance competition arenas—we’ve seen a little bit of everything at our daughters’ various sporting events over the years! My husband grew up playing football and baseball—but, is the first to admit that watching his girls play sports is just as exciting as watching the boys on the football field! Playing Soccer like a Girl 

My favorite soccer memory is of my youngest daughter going toe to toe with a little boy at a soccer camp, taking a face-first shove through newly cut grass, getting up, stealing the ball, scoring a goal---then spitting out a mouthful of grass—with the dad of one of the boys yelling, “See THAT? THAT’S how you play soccer!” I will never forget the horrified look on his son’s face! Yep—she was wearing these pink shorts and pigtails that day too.

Irish Dancing Like a Girl 

Anyone who says that dance is not a sport has never seen competitive Irish dancing. We spend many weekends of the year traveling to Irish dance competitions—and many more hours of the week watching the girls practice or shuttling the girls from classes, camps, and workshops.



We have watched our middle daughter emerge from the shy one that needed pried from our arms at preschool to the one earning medals on a competition stage. This sport has given her more confidence, discipline and strength (both mental and physical) than anything I could imagine—and she gets to use her own God-given curls when she wants to also.



Our youngest has taken a break from the soccer field for the dance competition stage—and there is nothing like the feeling you get as a parent when she brings home medals—especially two first place medals like she did a few months ago!

Our girls prove that playing like a girl is a pretty good thing! They give it their all no matter what sport—and they have gained so much personally from their experiences. We think every girl should be encouraged in sports--and we think the Verizon FiOS Football Girl scores!
