Book Review: Impatience by Laura Stapleton

I love a good mystery--especially with our evenings growing a little chillier and a little busier with back to school.  I am spending a lot of time waiting for my girls between activities--so, luckily, I always have a stack of books to read!  Impatience, the 2nd book in Laura Stapleton's Nova Scotia Murder Mystery series, finally topped my reading list this week.  What did I think of Impatience by Laura Stapleton?

I received complimentary copies of the two books featured here for use in my review.  All opinions are my own.

Quick Summary of Impatience.  In the second full novel in an Atlantic Maritime series, an assumed loyal son is the first suspect after his invalid mother’s surprise death. Was the suspect impatient for his inheritance? Or did old age catch up to the dear elderly lady? Can Aaron and Mandy teaming up again help explain his patient’s death before the wrong man is arrested?

Impatience is a Stand Alone Novel.  While this is a stand alone novel--and readers will certainly find a complete story, I would recommend reading it as a series.  Stapleton's characters draw readers into their lives.  I originally began to read this book first--and then had some time to read the first book in the series.  I think building a connection to the characters throughout the first book made this book flow better for me.  By the time I began this book for the second time, I was attached to the characters and their settings a bit more.  This book was then able to pull me immediately into a familiar story-world.

Expect some surprises.  I love books that keep me guessing.  Whether I'm questioning loyalties or simply unsure of the outcomes--I prefer that a book keep me guessing!  Stapleton's writing style and character development keep the storyline moving (and changing and evolving) to keep the reader's interest through to the end of the story.

Would I recommend Impatience by Laura Stapleton.  I enjoyed both books from this series.  The author's writing style is light and easy to read with a lot of mysterious turns.  Readers will become attached to the characters, the slight romantic element and to the outcomes.  I would read Betrayal first--simply because I think the backstories help build stronger character attachment in subsequent books.  I will certainly be looking for other books in this series--and more from this author.

Quick Summary of Betrayal.  Welcome to the first full novel in an Atlantic Maritime series soaked in romance and murder. When a family friend of Mandy Hays washes up on shore, everything points to homicide. But how, when he was alone on a fishing trip? Her sexy neighbor, Dr. Aaron Nicholson, knows much more than he can say. As the evidence piles up, all of the victim’s family and closest friends seem guilty. Need to know more?
