You’ve just had a child, one of the most wonderful
experiences you can have in life. You’re learning and growing as a mom and as a
person, all because you’re taking care the little angel you created. You’re
ready to be the best mom possible.
Maybe you have been looking online and haven’t found any mom
content that appeals to you. Or you’ve been inspired by your child to start
making your own content. Either way, starting a mom blog is a great way to get
advice and give tips for ‘mom-ing’ out there.
It’s a great way to make a full-time income from the comfort
of your home. The extra time allows you to have more quality experiences with
your child.
Here are some tips to help you kick start your career as a
mom blogger.
1.
Choosing the Right
Domain Name
The
domain name is the most important part of getting your website out there.
Without one, no one knows where to go for your content. Picking a domain name
is important, it will be representing your brand and the posts you create.
Now,
there are a few tips for choosing the perfect domain name. First, take some
time to think of a good one that will catch all your blog is about. But, don’t
take forever. At that point, you’re just making excuses to not start a blog in
the first place.
Second,
you need to check and see if the domain name you’ve chosen is taken. There are
free resources on the web to let you know. Also, if you are planning to promote
your blog on social media (a plan we suggest), make sure the social media
account names aren’t taken either.
Third,
make sure the name is simple and also stands out. It has to be easy to say out
loud and also represent you and your topic well.
2.
Choosing the Right
Hosting Provider
A
web hosting provider is a place where your blog will actually live. Like a
domain name, if you don’t have a hosting platform, no one knows where to go for
the content. It basically doesn’t exist.
Now
a lot of hosting providers are known for having choppy service and not being
helpful at all, so it’s important to do your research. Make sure the site has
guarantees and will provide for you in times you are having difficulties.
Some
providers even come with domain names for a small extra fee, that way
everything is included.
3.
Connect the Domain
and the Hosting Account
If
you went through a hosting provider that includes a domain name, you don’t need
to worry about this step.
Otherwise,
make sure that you can connect the domain name with the hosting account. This
requires going into the account in which you purchased the domain, clicking the
tab to manage your domains, and creating a custom nameserver. A nameserver is
the location where you want to put your domain, your hosting provider.
Be
sure to click save before going back to the hosting account to check on your
blog.
4.
Install a Blogging
Platform that Works for You
The
most popular blogging platform is WordPress, used by millions of different
blogs and services. WordPress offers many unique features that allow you to
customize your blog and writing style. It is also fairly accessible, which
makes it easy for all users.
There
are other options as well, including blogger, tumblr, and medium. Just do some
research to see which one would work best for your blog.
5.
Choose what Aspects
to Focus on
Finally,
if you look at other mom blogs like Mom Fabulous, it is clear that they
write about different aspects of being a mother. Deciding on what you write about doesn’t have to
be a hassle. If you mention the topic frequently during conversations, maybe
that would be a good blog section. Choose something that you learned first-hand
and become an expert!
