Making your move smooth and stress-free will require you to plan properly. Aside from choosing the best interstate removalist company in Sydney or other cities, here are the things you can do to keep your house and belongings damage-free:

1. Create a comprehensive moving plan

Before you start the moving process, make a plan. In this plan, you should outline which items would be packed first, and which would be packed last. To help you become more organized, create lists for each box to make packing easier. In general, you should pack frequently used items last, such as toiletries, clothes, and some kitchen utensils.

On the other hand, pack valuable items first to separate them from the rest of the moving boxes. This way, you can protect your valuables from being jostled around duringthe loading.

2. Protect your floors

Be sure to protect your floors from scrapes, cracks, and heavy traffic by laying down a protective material such as cardboard, plastic sheeting, old blankets, or tarp. Don't forget to secure these coverings to avoid having anyone trip or slip on it.

3. Cover heavy furniture

Heavy furniture tends to take in most of the damage during the move since they are difficult to carry and can get banged up even with the most careful handlers. To protect your furniture, cover them with bubble wrap or furniture blankets. Consider fastening corner guards as well.

4. Prevent damage to your walls, railings, and door frames

Walls and door frames are also susceptible to scratching or nicks during a move. Prevent damage by covering high-traffic walls and corners with cardboard and painter's tape. For door frames and stair railings, you can use bubble wrap or moving blankets.

5. Disassemble detachable furniture

When your belongings are being transported, they are at risk of banging into each other while in the moving van. The best way to minimize this is to disassemble detachable furniture and pack them into a box.

6. Pack evenly

As a rule of thumb, pack heavier items into smaller boxes and in fewer quantities. Otherwise, a large box that is too heavy can fall apart or injure the carrier. On the other hand, pack lighter items in a larger box. Ensure that empty spaces are filled with old newspaper or packing foam.

7. Discuss special items with your moving company

Certain items like hot tubs, heavy appliances, and other large, complicated items may require specific moving processes. During your consultation, discuss these items with your movers to find out how they plan to move those items and how long it will take.

The final piece of advice is to start packing early. This way, you will have more time to plan, pack, and organize your things before the movers arrive. You can be sure that your belongings will reach the destination in one piece.
