I enjoy finding faith based movies with inspirational messages to share with our readers! Today, I have The Hill in our movie review spotlight! Take a few minutes to learn about the movie based on former baseball player Rickey Hill and the challenges he faced and overcame. I had the opportunity to watch this film earlier this month in anticipation of its theater release this week! Read my thoughts on the movie and buy your tickets to see it in theaters!

Synopsis: Growing up impoverished in small-town Texas, young Rickey Hill shows an extraordinary ability for hitting a baseball, despite being burdened by leg braces from a degenerative spinal disease. His stern, pastor father (DENNIS QUAID) discourages Rickey from playing baseball to protect him from injury, and to have him follow in his footsteps and become a preacher. As a young man, Rickey (COLIN FORD) becomes a baseball phenomenon. His desire to participate in a try-out for a legendary major league scout divides the family and threatens Rickey’s dream of playing professional baseball.
Based on a true story, THE HILL is directed by Jeff Celentano and also stars JOELLE CARTER, country music singer and songwriter RANDY HOUSER, Golden Globe nominee BONNIE BEDELIA, and SCOTT GLENN.

My Review
The Hill Highlights Hope, Perseverance, Faith and Family. This family friendly film offers viewers a heartwarming story of family, faith and hope as young Rickey grows and pursues his dream of playing professional baseball. While his father's views on following God and the clashing nature of Rickey's dreams are presented quite strongly and heavy-handedly, Rickey's own beliefs and faith provide the inspirational story that will entertain and encourage viewers. Viewers will enjoy the supporting cast as much (or even more) than the main characters!
Christian Messages and Southern Values Hit Hard in this Film. This is a heavy, Christian, faith based movie--that hits hard on religious ideas, and cliched Southern life and values. Sometimes, the portrayal of this poor Southern family was almost a little too over the top to bear. Having said that, the extreme nature of these aspects of Rickey's life and upbringing certainly added to the monumental challenges he faced on his path to reach his dreams and goals.
Would I Recommend The Hill? This film is based on the true story of former baseball player Rickey Hill. Baseball fans, especially those familiar with Hill, will enjoy the insights into his early life. Additionally, this film will take families on an emotional journey that offers many points for discussion and reflection as they story plays out. Viewers will find an emotional, inspirational, faith filled story that is well cast and encouraging.
