Healthy Lemon, Banana, Key Lime and Raisin Cream Pie Dessert Alternatives with Yogurt & Meringues

Are you ready to swap a Yoplait yogurt recipe for Lemon Meringue Pie or your favorite cream pie? I love cream or meringue pies. In fact, Banana Cream Pie with Meringue instead of whipped cream and Lemon Meringue Pie are two of my all time favorite pies. While I love the pies, I’m not so impressed by the fat and calorie content of each serving! The USDA lists a typical serving of lemon meringue pie at a whopping 374 calories and 16 grams of fat. Wouldn’t it be nice if I could still have those pie flavors without blowing the fat and calorie budget for the day?

As a member of the Yoplait Swap Team—I had the chance to share sneak peaks of tasty new recipe swap ideas from the minds of Yoplait. This week, I was presented with the possibilities of swapping my beloved (high fat) lemon meringue pie with a low fat, lower calorie Yoplait Swap alternative. Hmm. Cream pies have my interest.

The folks at Yoplait provided Swap team members with the Lemon Meringue Yogurt (yum!) and a gift card to purchase this and upcoming recipe supplies. Off to the grocery store I went to purchase some items for the Yoplait Lemon Meringue Bowls. Knowing that my two little girls are anti-lemon meringue, I thought ahead and picked up a Banana Cream Pie Yoplait Light Yogurt as well as a Very Vanilla and a Chocolate Forest Cake for some additional faux cream pie dessert options for them.

The Yoplait Light Lemon Meringue Swap Recipe.  Check out the Yoplait Light site for the full Lemon Meringue Bowls Recipe. I changed it up a little her in Mama's World…as you know, I can’t leave a recipe well enough alone.

My Versions of "Any Cream Pie" with Yoplait Light yogurts:

Lemon Meringue Yogurt Dessert Recipe
  • 1 Container of Lemon Meringue Pie Yoplait Light Yogurt
  • 4 Mini Meringue Cookies
  • ½ of a Graham Cracker Rectangle, Crushed (This does add calories and up to a gram of fat depending on the graham crackers used—but, it does make the texture more “pie like”.
  • Grated Lemon Peel

In a dessert dish, layer in the graham crackers, spoon the yogurt over the graham crackers, top the Mini Meringue Cookies, and dust with the Lemon Peel.

Banana Cream Yogurt Dessert Recipe
  • 1 Container of Banana Cream Pie Yoplait Light Yogurt
  • 4 Mini Meringue Cookies
  • ½ of a Graham Cracker Rectangle, Crushed (This does add calories and up to a gram of fat depending on the graham crackers used—but, it does make the texture more “pie like”.
  • ¼ Banana, five thin slices
  • **Reserve a Sprinkle of graham crackers and 1 Banana Slice to dust the top of the dessert.
Layer as above with the graham crackers, then the bananas, and the yogurt. I like to put the banana/graham cracker crust into the freezer for 20-30 minutes before topping with the "pie filling".  Top with the mini Meringue Cookies and dust with graham crackers.

Raisin Cream Yogurt Dessert Recipe
  • 1 Container Very Vanilla Yoplait Light Yogurt
  • 4 Mini Meringue Cookies
  • ½ of a Graham Cracker Rectangle, Crushed (This does add calories and up to a gram of fat depending on the graham crackers used—but, it does make the texture more “pie like”.
  • 6 Raisins
  • Reserve a Sprinkle of graham crackers and 1-2 Raisins to dust the top of the dessert

Layer as above with the graham crackers, then the raisins, and the yogurt. Top with the mini Meringue Cookies, reserved raisins and dust with graham crackers.

Key Lime Cream Yogurt Dessert Recipe
  • 1 Container Key Lime Pie Yoplait Light Yogurt
  • 4 Mini Meringue Cookies
  • ½ of a Graham Cracker Rectangle, Crushed (This does add calories and up to a gram of fat depending on the graham crackers used—but, it does make the texture more “pie like”.
  • Grated Lime Peel
Layer as above with the graham crackers, then the yogurt. Top with the mini Meringue Cookies and grated lime peel.

You get the idea, right? I tried black forest--but, it was more cherry tasting and less chocolate--so I would go with a different Yoplait Light chocolate flavored yogurt for the faux, chocolate cream pie!  If you haven’t checked out the Yoplait Light Facebook page—head on over and get some ideas.  This was a great way to satisfy the urge for diet blasting cream pie! The Yoplait Swap recipes cut the calories in half and reduced the fat to nearly zero for this dessert. My version added a little fat and calories to make the texture more like my pie recipes—but, both ways still saved a lot of fat and calories from the originals!

From a busy mom standpoint, it was also nice to be able to offer the whole family a healthier dessert to suit some very individual tastes in about 5 minutes of preparation time. Can’t wait to see what Yoplait swaps next week!
