5 Kitchen Gadgets That Make Weeknight Dinners So Much Easier

Let's be honest—we spend a lot of time in the kitchen. Between the morning breakfast rush, packing lunches, and the evening dinner shuffle, the kitchen can sometimes feel like a revolving door. Because of that, I am constantly on the hunt for products that make that time more efficient.

I'm not talking about clutter or one-task-wonders that just take up space. I'm talking about functional tools that actually help. We are constantly looking for cool new kitchen gadgets that busy moms actually need to make life easier.

After years of feeding a family of five, here are the 5 kitchen gadgets I think every busy mom should own.

1. A Large Capacity Slow Cooker

Even moms who love to cook don't always have the hours in the day to stand over a stove. Coming home at the end of a chaotic workday to a house full of dinner smells—knowing the meal is already waiting—is a sanity saver.

Since we are a family of five, I skip the small ones and go straight for the large capacity slow cookers (6 quarts or larger). This size is essential for "planned leftovers," meaning I cook once and we eat twice. It is the best tool I have found for managing the 5:00 PM "witching hour" without stress.

2. Jar Opener.

There is nothing worse than struggling to open a vacuum sealed jar of food—or a jar containing an absolutely required meal 2. A Heavy-Duty Jar Opener Vacuum-sealed jars are the absolute worst when you are in a rush. You have the water boiling, the kids are asking for snacks, and the pasta sauce lid refuses to budge. I used to bang the lid on the counter or run it under hot water, but a dedicated jar opener is just faster and safer. Whether you choose a simple rubber grip pad or a gadget that mounts under your cabinet to pop the seal, it saves you from hurting your wrists or slipping and making a mess.

Why is this a must-have? It pops tight vacuum seals instantly, requiring little hand strength. If you are like me--you have little hand strength!

3. Magnetic Knife Rack.

I keep a few different sets of knives—my good ones for prep work, and others that we rarely use. Knife blocks used to be my go-to, but they take up prime real estate on the counter. On the other hand, tossing sharp knives into a drawer is dangerous for your fingers and dulls the blades.

I eventually switched to a wall-mounted magnetic knife rack. It keeps the knives visible so I grab exactly the one I need, and it keeps them high up on the wall, well out of reach of little hands.

Why it's a Mom-Win: It frees up drawer and counter space while keeping sharp blades stored safely.

4. Curved Cutting Board

I use my cutting boards daily, usually for slicing bagels in the morning or chopping veggies for dinner.

My biggest gripe with standard flat boards is the transfer process. You chop an onion, try to scrape it into the pan, and end up dropping pieces all over the stove or the floor. A curved cutting board (sometimes called a concave board) eliminates that problem. The sides are slightly raised to funnel your food right where you want it to go.

Why it's a Mom-Win: It stops chopped food from falling off the edge, saving you cleanup time.

5. A Mini Food Chopper.

I do a lot of chopping by hand, but I love the convenience of a small food chopper for certain things.

I have a large food processor, but I rarely drag it out because the cleanup takes longer than the actual cooking. A mini food chopper is the perfect middle ground. It's small, fast, and easier to clean. I use it constantly for mincing garlic, chopping nuts for baking, or making a quick salsa.
