Tips for Visiting the AAA Great Vacations Travel Expo in Columbus this January

I know.  It's only January.  However, in our little corner of the world, our thoughts and visions are already headed toward spring break and summer vacations!  We have had a fairly mild winter in Central Ohio this year; but, spring fever is settling in anyway.  One of the first vacation planning adventures we take almost every year is our trip to the annual AAA Great Vacations Travel Expo held at the Columbus Convention Center in downtown Columbus, Ohio.  This Expo happens in January or February each year and offers a wealth of travel tips and planning resources (as well as giveaways and discounts!)  If you are planning a trip to the AAA Great Vacations Travel Expo this year; keep these tips in mind to make the most of your outing.

We were not compensated for this post.  We have received complimentary admission tickets in the past for these events--but, all opinions are our own.

Taste of the Place Debuts in 2016.  Yum.  I love to travel for the beautiful scenery and the cultural experiences--but, deep down, I travel for the food.  I am looking forward to checking out the deals and offers--but, I am really looking forward to Taste of the Place on Friday, January 22!  Many exhibits will offer visitors samples of some pretty special foods related to their destinations. Plan to visit on Friday if you want to experience the Taste of the Place!

Seek out the AAA Travel Stage at the Expo.  The Travel Stage is where you will find special guest appearances, entertainment, and informative travel-related presentations.  The 2016AAA Great Vacations Travel Expo hosts the Travel Channel's Samantha Brown on Sunday, January 24th.

Take time to really visit the exhibits.  While the main stage presentations are informative; the exhibitors hold the keys to your next vacation or family day-trip.  Exhibitors range from local metro-parks to international destinations and everything in between.  Many exhibitors offer special Expo attendee discounts, on-the-spot vacation bookings--and giveaways to enter.  The exhibitors will be eager to share their destinations and offerings with you and have a wealth of information to offer visitors.

Remember that Saturday is Kids Day.  While the kiddos receive free admission every day of the Expo; they may have the most fun on Saturday.  There are special contest opportunities for kids, cartoon character visits, and more to keep the younger ones entertained at the Expo on Kids Day.

AAA Members Receive Expo Admission Discounts.  General Admission to the Expo is $8 for an adult.  Kids 16 and under are admitted Free.  AAA Members receive 1/2 price admission with AAA member card.  If you are a AAA member, check your latest issue of the Home & Away magazine.  I found a ticket voucher for free adult admission to the AAA Great Vacations Travel Expo in my magazine!

Do your Travel Homework before Booking.  There will be great deals offered by some of the exhibitors.  There will be Expo-only specials in some booths and deep discounts for booking via your Expo visit.  I would still encourage you to do your homework before jumping into a vacation plan.  Take a look at the 2016 exhibitor list...pick a few that interest you and do a little research before you visit the Expo.
