How to Raise a Smart Ass Book Review & Giveaway

Sometimes, we just need to step back from our day to day parenting adventures and take a more lighthearted look at some of the not-really-for-the-faint-at-heart life events we have encountered as parents! I enjoy parenting, memoir-type books. Some days, it's easy to feel like the star of God's own daily-happenings-in-the-weird-and-unusual reality show. Reading another parent's take on raising children (especially amusing takes) helps me keep it all in perspective! What did I think of How to Raise a Smart Ass by Lucia Walinchus?

I received a complimentary e-book copy of this book for use in my review. All opinions are my own. Readers may enter to win a prize in the book tour giveaway at the end of this post.

Quick Summary of How to Raise a Smart Ass by Lucia Walinchus. How to Raise a Smart Ass is a funny, witty, rollicking ride through the joys of early parenthood. The so-titled “Best Butt Wiper in the World” delights audiences by recounting tales of ninja nurses, naughty knights, and super-duper poopers. Whether you’re a proud parent or you aspire to populate the world with tiny terrors of your own someday, this book will have you laughing out loud, or at a minimum buying lots of sanitizer. Kids are messy.

Walinchus illustrates the humor of life's parenting struggles. And parents will relate. Even if your stories and baby/toddler parenting memories aren't exactly the same as Lucia's....this book will help you conjure up some old memories and you will likely relate. The author doesn't take herself too seriously--and is really able to look back and laugh (and cause others to laugh) at her early parenting adventures. She is a little sarcastic and witty--and great at retelling her life's mini-stories.

The conversational tone of the book makes it all even better for the reader. I have never met the author--but, I could imagine sitting with her and talking--and laughing--for hours. Guess what little Susie did this time? There is never a condescending tone--nor critical parenting advice. She essentially admits some mess-ups and shares some of the many ups and downs openly to the world.

Would I recommend How to Raise a Smart Ass? If you need to take a step back from all of the constant, critical parenting advice for a humorous break--this is a fun parenting memoir. I think it's best for parents who are actually past the baby-toddler stage (with at least 1 or 2 children) as it will likely strike that nostalgic, OH-GOSH-YES...I REMEMBER FEELING THAT WAY chord! It's well written, funny, and real. This book is a fun look at parenting--and a great reminder that even the less than perfect moments of life make great memories.
