Give It A Theme

Having a theme can really bring your backyard together. You don't have to get complicated; your theme can be something simple like "oriental" or "wicker." Just keep it consistent, and apply it to everything from patio furniture to lawn decorations.

Improve Your Lighting

It doesn't matter how lavishly you decorate your backyard if no one can actually see it! Make sure that your exterior lighting is good enough for the space. Don't rely on porch lights alone; bring in things like lamps, lanterns, light posts, tiki torches and fairy lights for the trees.

Install New Features

You can make an old backyard seem like new again when you bring fresh features into it. Again, they don't have to be big and elaborate unless you want them to be; you can make a splash with something as simple as a metal sphere fire pit. It all depends on how you place it.

Upgrade Your Furniture

Old or worn-out furniture can bring down the aesthetic of your entire backyard. Thankfully, this is an easy thing to fix. Even if you don't want to completely replace your tables and chairs, you can clean, polish and reupholster them to bring them up to snuff.

Add Some Green
You don't have to be a professional gardener to get a little green. A few potted plants can be enough to give your backyard a taste of nature, and if you buy a species that flourishes on its own, you won't need to constantly tend to them.

These are just a few things to consider if you want an elegant backyard. There are many other things that you can try as well, so don't feel limited by the suggestions presented here. Look at blogs, movies and magazines to find even more inspiration!
