Moving in to a New Home

When you move, there’s a lot more that you need to do than just unpack. Save the finishing touches for later and start with the items that need to be addressed most urgently. Here’s a quick game plan for tackling the most important items head-on.

Hire Some Help with the Move
While you can probably load and unload all of those boxes and pieces of furniture yourself--your time may be better spent taking care of other concerns and details with your new home. Look into hiring a moving service in Melbourne FL or near your city and let them take care of the heavy lifting!

Take Care of Maintenance Issues Right Away
You’ve got a lot to do with unpacking, but take care of anything that isn’t working properly right after you move in. Unaddressed problems can cause safety hazards, wastewater or energy, or worsen over time. Tackle any issues as soon as possible to help prevent any further maintenance problems.

Get Window Shades
One of the first things that you’ll want to do is cover your windows. Until you do something about your windows, you may have serious privacy concerns, or you may find the early morning sun to be unwelcome and intense. Ordering roller shades right away will spare you any unnecessary discomfort from bare windows.

Evaluate What Lighting You Need
Some homes have a lot of built-in lighting fixtures while others require a lot of stand-alone lighting. Depending on what your previous home was like, you may find that you don’t have adequate lighting in your new surroundings. If you’re literally stumbling in the dark, get yourself at least one additional light right away. Don’t sacrifice your comfort for any period of time while you find your idea of the perfect lights.

Choose Comfortable Floor Coverings
Some people genuinely like the aesthetic appeal of bare floors, but it’s better for everyone ergonomically to have at least some rugs or carpets in their homes. Choose rugs that complement your main furniture pieces and appear to be made of thick material. At a minimum, you need a bathmat for the bathroom to prevent slippery floors. Anti-fatigue flooring mats are an excellent addition to any kitchen.
