Music Review: Time by Rod Stewart

I recently received a copy of Time, Rod Stewart’s latest album, to review.  I’ve said before that I have a very, varied taste in music—and I’ve listened to Rod Stewart for at least a couple of decades of his nearly 40-year, music career.  Music has changed a lot over the years.  How did Rod Stewart’s latest album, Time, stand up to our review?

Time may just take listeners back in time.  Rod Stewart sounds just like he did in the 70’s and 80’s—and doesn’t look much differently either!

As a songwriter, Stewart, who wrote 11 of the songs on this album, drew on life experiences for his “storytelling” on this album:  his first collection of new material in nearly 20 years.   Stewart’s characteristic sound, and expected tales of pain and real-life challenges seem to erase the absence.  His musical style and rhythms have softened from the 80’s pop style to something a little softer and emotional—but, the album is certainly representative of Rod Stewart.

Would I recommend Time by Rod Stewart?  If you were a Stewart fan of years past, this album is a continuation of the past performer that you knew and loved.  There is nothing catchy or “new” that jumps out at listeners—it’s just well written, enjoyable music.

Along with this album release, Rod Stewart begins the European portion of his Live the Life tour on June 1st—and will visit American with Steve Winwood later in the fall of 2013.
