My Review

This is a wonderful, family-friendly story collection.   The girls and I have been reading a few stories from this book each night over several days.  Each story offers a faith-filled lesson surrounding new life (or a changed life) through death, personal sacrifice, or an ending of some sort.   The stories are not focused on Easter as a holiday--but, on the Christian symbolism presented by the day and on Biblical stories.

The collection is best suited for older children.  While the collection is family-friendly--it may not hold the interest of younger children.  Bear in mind that the writings featured in this book come from works by authors such as Leo Tolstoy, Anton Chekhov, and CS Lewis.  The texts are not simplistic and could certainly be a little long or heavy for younger children.  My 8 and 10-year-old girls enjoyed reading the stories aloud and discussing them together.  Most of the stories in the collection are fairly short--making them an easy, family-friendly, storytime read.  I do think the stories are best read aloud and discussed as a family.

Would I recommend Easter Stories:  Classic Tales for the Holy Season?  This collection is filled with a variety of stories, pulled from a variety of authors--from modern times to the 1800's.  I do think the book is family-friendly--but, for families with older children.  I would also recommend pre-reading the stories before sharing them with your children as some of the concepts may be difficult for some children or too lengthy.  I would certainly recommend this for anyone seeking to add stories of faith to the Easter holiday--whether sharing the stories as a family or reading alone.
