Stay at Home Mom 101: Tips for Self Care for Busy Moms

Most moms would agree that the demands of motherhood are many, and if a mother is not careful, she could find her own needs being neglected or altogether ignored. This is why, as a mother, you need to set aside a little time every day to do something just for yourself. Even if it's just for 5 or 10 minutes, those few minutes make up the glue that helps you remember your name before you became a mother. Those moments allow a mom to be Lisa, instead of just Mom, even if it's just for a little while.

Flexible Time Management. The life of a mother rarely follows a strict schedule. Often the average day is filled with many impromptu unexpected events. As a result, a mom has to be extremely flexible with when she gets her me time. If the baby is sick her me time might not happen until the baby falls asleep, whenever that is. If she is summoned to school for a meeting with a teacher, that meeting may override her ability to watch her favorite show. This is where investing in Tivo or getting a recording device may be in order. If you love to collect willow tree figures, don't stop. Continue to do the things that you always enjoyed when you can. As long as you take the time to do something for yourself on a daily basis, it helps to keep the connection you have with yourself as an authentic individual and not just a mother.

Self-Care.  Just as mothers care for their children, they should make it a point to care for themselves. Mothers often neglect their own health needs by not eating a healthy balanced diet, or getting enough sleep, for long periods of time. As a mother, you must first understand that all love starts first with self-love, and your children can observe your lack of self-care. Self-neglect doesn't set a good example for raising healthy well-balanced children.

Moms need to feed their own lives on a regular basis in order to maintain a healthy connection with themselves, and also to be a good example for their children. Mothers deserve some personal time every day, even if it's just a few minutes. She should keep up with her health on a regular basis, eat a well-balanced diet and try to get enough rest. Going to the doctor for basic check ups, at least yearly, is also important. There is nothing wrong with a mother taking care of herself, in fact, there's a lot right with it.
