Why Are You So Tired?

Chronic fatigue affects a lot of people but most of us just put it down to being a side effect of modern life. Maybe that is the cause, we all live busy lifestyles and it does take its toll on us. But being extremely tired all of the time is not normal or healthy. Beyond that, it could even be a symptom of a wider health problem. If you’re still feeling tired and lethargic when you haven’t been doing anything all day, this is a bad sign. There are a number of reasons why you might be suffering from fatigue so if you are, go to the doctors and have them check for these possibilities.

Poisoning. This sounds a bit serious and that’s because it is. I’m not talking about poisoning in the traditional sense like you see in the movies. I’m talking about background poisoning from substances around the home. Two of the most common are Asbestos and Carbon Monoxide. Asbestos is the cause of lots of health problems including respiratory problems and chronic fatigue. If left untreated, it can cause cancers as well so it is imperative that you get rid of it.

Carbon Monoxide causes similar symptoms and is harder to detect. It has no odor and the only way to tell if you’ve been affected is using a detector. Your house should already be fitted with one but if it isn’t, get one immediately.

Celiac Disease. There is a lot of debate about gluten at the minute. Lots of people claim that is harmful to you generally and this has given rise to a whole host of gluten-free foods. The science is still unclear on this issue as studies have been inconclusive so far. What they are sure of is that people with Celiac disease are negatively affected by gluten. If you are Celiac and you eat gluten, it will leave you feeling extremely tired, as well causing diarrhea and weight loss.

AnemiaThis is one of the most prevalent causes of fatigue, affecting around one in twenty people. It is a shortage of iron in the blood, meaning that oxygen does not circulate properly. It can be combated by taking iron supplements so if you feel that this may be affecting you, head to the doctors.

Chronic Fatigue SyndromeThis is a health problem that just causes fatigue, obviously. It is also sometimes known as ME. Other symptoms include a sore throat, muscle and joint pain, and headaches. It is usually a temporary condition lasting around six months.

Sleep ApneaSleep apnea is a condition that causes your throat to close up while you sleep, so you cannot breathe naturally. This means that you wake up sporadically throughout the night and you can’t get proper restful sleep. It is not the illness itself that causes the tiredness, but the fact that you aren’t sleeping properly has a big effect. Sleep apnoea is made a lot worse by smoking and drinking alcohol so curb these if you think that you have a problem.
