About the Book
As a very shy, meek, and insecure little girl, Diane Mullins grew up the youngest of seven children in an abusive family. Never shown or taught how to love or be loved, Diane grew up with no self-confidence or self-esteem. Who knew that it would take a near-fatal accident to help her find her way to self-love and spiritual freedom? In Dying to Belong, Diane shares her story that begins at the scene of a body- and spirit-crushing ATV accident. Forced to ride out of the wilderness area herself, she arrived at the hospital to discover broken bones, ruptured organs, and a punctured lung. She was literally on the doorstep of death. During the excruciating process of physical healing, Diane began exploring a spiritual journey that led to loving, accepting, and respecting herself. Diane learned the empowering lesson that by changing her thoughts and feelings, she has been able to live a life of freedom from negativity and pain.
The Author Shares an Emotional, Honest, Inspirational Story with Readers. The author faced an experience that pushed her to face her life as a whole as well. Readers will find a straightforward to read, relatable life story that proves inspirational as the author takes us through her healing process from both a physical standpoint and psychological and spiritual ones as she struggled to allow herself to find peace with herself. Many people opt to make changes to their lives once they find themselves in "rock-bottom" situations--and a life or death realization is undoubtedly one of those situations. Reading the author's honest reflections on her own life and her story open the door for readers to consider the benefits of changing aspects of their own lives as well.
Dying to Belong is an Organized Memoir That Will Hold Readers Interest. Mullins writes her story in a very organized fashion that catches reader interest immediately and holds them as she moves through her life story. Often, a memoir will meander through memories or present essential details to them--but not necessarily to the overall story. The author writes this book with the reader in mind. I found myself very drawn to the author and to her story. She brought me into her world--and made me look a bit into my own world at the same time.
Would I recommend Dying to Belong by Diane Mullins? Memoir fans--or even fans of women's fiction and dramas-- who enjoy stories with uplifting, inspirational messages will enjoy this book. The author's voice and writing style pulls readers in and gives insights and inspiration beyond the author's story pages. I would definitely recommend the book and will look for more from this author in the future.
