About the Book

Quirky, magic-potion-making Dr. Pete the Porcupine finds himself in a sticky situation, perplexed by a terribly tricky case. Beloved by his desert neighbors for always fixing their prickliest problems, has Dr. Pete finally found a prickly problem he can’t solve? Follow Dr. Pete through this heartwarming tale as he and his desert friends learn the power of compassion, kindness, and friendship.

My Review

Dr. Pete Gives Readers Some Life Lessons to Consider in The Prickly Problem. While Dr. Pete is a great problem solver with his medicinal potions and concoctions--he is a caring friend and neighbor too. When medicine fails to "fix" a neighborhood bully--the good doctor has a different healing plan in mind. Children will learn about loneliness, kindness, empathy, and love as the characters seek to help a neighbor feel (and behave) better.

Cute Characters and Wonderful Illustrations Bring The Prickly Problem to Life. The author and illustrator combine animals and scenes from the desert into a colorful, fun, magical story for children. Every page has something to see and talk about as readers watch Dr. Pete heal his community with more than "magic" medicinal potions.

Would I Recommend The Prickly Problem by Cheryl DaVeiga? The Prickly Problem is a wonderful book for animal lovers and little ones with big hearts! The story is a little longer than some children's books--but it is the perfect length to tell Pete's story and bring smiles to readers. I recommend the book to younger readers learning about emotions and relationships--and the power of a good hug! Parents and caregivers should leave the story with a warm, happy feeling too!
