Coming to movie theaters this December, for only a few days, I HEARD THE BELLS tells the inspiring true story behind the beloved Christmas carol and its author, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Known as America's Poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow leads an idyllic life...until the day his world is shattered by tragedy. With a nation divided by Civil War and his family torn apart, Henry puts down his pen, silenced by grief. But it's the sound of Christmas morning that reignites the poet's lost voice as he discovers the resounding hope of rekindled faith.

My Review
I Heard the Bells Brings Hope Through Restored Faith. Longfellow's life and soul was damaged by both the evil of the world as it battled against slavery and war and the deep grief and personal suffering he experienced through the loss of his wife, This film allows us to witness the doubting of God's Plan--as we often due during difficult, confusing times. As Longfellow struggles to find purpose and meaning in his life, and heal emotionally and physically from the tragic fire that took his wife, he finds inspiration in the power of God's presence and in his gifts as a poet.
I Heard the Bells Gives Christian Messages without Preaching. The holidays are difficult for many facing grief, misfortune, or challenges of faith. Rather than creating a feel good, preachy style storyline--this movie offers more subtle nudges toward God and peace and hope. This is a Christian, faith based movie--but, also one that follows a man struggling with faith and hope as he finds his way back toward both.
Would I Recommend I Head the Bells? This film features the story of Longfellow's journey through darkness and grief as he searched within himself, his life and his faith to pen the title poem inspiring the Christmas carol. The themes faced in this movie may not be suitable for younger viewers--and the story is a little dark--but, families with older teens (especially those familiar with Longfellow and his work) will enjoy the inspirational messages encountered as the poet seeks to find his voice and regain his faith. It is an inspiring story of redemption and rekindled faith as we near the Christmas holiday.

This looks like a movie I can watch with my kids. I also enjoy historical movies.
ReplyDeleteI like watching historical movies and ones with a good message are always best.
ReplyDeleteI like movies set in the past and I also like that it isn't too childish but is a bit darker and more appealing for older kids/adults.
ReplyDeleteIt came to our area but I missed it.
