I love finding new children's books to share--especially ones that help discuss topics close to my heart! As many of our readers know, my family has a house full of rescued pets. All of our pets (except the chinchillas the the turtle) have been adopted from shelters or rescued at strays. Today, I am sharing Foster's Leash by Sarah Sommer. This book takes a look at the journey of fostering a dog to adoption. Check out Foster's Leash, read my thoughts on the book, learn about the author, and be sure to enter for a chance to win a prize in the book tour giveaway at the end of this post.

My Review
Foster's Leash Shares an Easy-to-Read Look into Fostering a Dog. Fostering animals while they await adoption can be a rewarding activity for families--but saying goodbye to a fostered pet can be challenging. This engaging children's book tells the story of a little girl's family fostering Pepper the Dog--and gives a realistic look at the emotions faced by the little girl when it's time to send Pepper to her forever home. The story is simple and easy to read but offers essential topics for families to discuss if they are considering fostering--or are ready to send their fostered animal to a new home. The book is a little sad as the young girl shares her feelings--but it also shares rewards and uplifting realizations as she decides if she can foster another animal after saying goodbye to Pepper.
The Illustrations Bring a Heartwarming Feel to the Story. As the story progresses, the illustrations show the emotions and scenes with a consistent, warm style that brings a cozy feeling to the book.
Would I Recommend Foster's Leash by Sarah Sommer? Foster's Leash is a great children's book for families who are considering fostering or want to learn about the fostering process. I think it's an important book to encourage discussion of the more emotional side of fostering a pet since foster families often become quite attached to their fostered animals. The book takes a realistic look at the fostering process and even offers a walk-through of how the fostering process works at the end. This story is a wonderful way to open the door for a family discussion while planning to foster--or to remind children of the reasons and rewards for fostering when it's time to send a foster pet to a forever home.
