My Review

 

This is not a Typical Christian Inspirational Guide. I didn't immediately settle into the author's writing style. The chapters didn't feel connected--so I set the book aside for a bit and reframed my focus. The book isn't really what I'm used to reading as a devotional, but it also isn't a book that builds and flows neatly from chapter to chapter. It's a little bit of both, so I had to change my expectations and explore the author's words chapter by chapter. The author offers a lot of thought-provoking considerations--a blend of scripture, commentary and guidance to help the reader understand the significance of a strong prayer foundation and work toward strengthening that foundation in their own lives.

 

Would I Recommend The Reasons I Pray? There were points in the book that gave me pause and references that I didn't fully agree with--but there were also plenty of thought-provoking, inspiring scenarios and lessons from which to gather inspiration and understanding. While the book is useful to any Christian seeking spiritual growth, I think it is especially helpful for those seeking to revisit or strengthen their faith through more focused prayer.
