Favorite Groundhog Day Books for Kids (Fun Winter Reading)

Winter mornings tend to run together this time of year. One day blends into the next, the street outside is covered in snow, and school schedules feel like a constant game of “wait and see.” It’s usually right around now that we start looking for little ways to break up the long stretch of winter.

Groundhog Day has always been one of those small, silly traditions in our house. We don’t take the predictions too seriously, but the kids have always loved watching Punxsutawney Phil and Buckeye Chuck, just to see what they’ll say. It’s simple, it’s lighthearted, and honestly—it’s a great excuse to do something different on an otherwise ordinary winter day.

When the girls were younger, I loved leaning into it a bit more. I’d pull out a few themed books, plan an easy craft, or make a fun snack just to give the day a little extra sparkle. Reading together was always my favorite part. Today, I’m sharing some of our favorite Groundhog Day books for kids—all great options for winter reading and available in print, ebook, or audiobook formats.
