My Review

Alycat and the Tournament Tuesday is a Simple Book with a Big Life Lesson.  I love short, fun picture books that offer families, caregivers and teachers the opportunity to apply the story to real life and much larger takeaways!  As a long-time mom--with kids who have been competitive in everything from spelling bees to music competitions and Irish dance competitions to a host of sports--I loved the way the author quickly and simply presented a short story example that opens up so much more for kids to understand about life around them.

Readers will find fun characters and adorable illustrations.  The illustrations are brightly colored and show the emotions of the characters and the story on every page.  The characters are encouraging and friendly--and easy for kids (and parents) to understand, relate to and love.  I could see my own children in the roles of this story!  (My oldest daughter always insisted on wearing number 11 when she played soccer--and was convinced that the season would be disastrous if she did not get that jersey number!)

Would I recommend Alycat and the Tournament Tuesday?  I think this is a wonderful book for families to share--especially those with preschool and young elementary aged students.  Kids begin "competing" at such young ages-and this is a great book for parents to help children understand talent, perseverance--and confidence in their growing abilities.  This is a fun, easy to read story that is perfect to open larger discussions for families about success in activities--and the psychological significance of those "lucky charms" and "rituals".   This one even has a little glossary of golf terms so that readers can better understand the Bugsy's golf game!  I love this series and would definitely recommend the series for young readers.
