Oven Baked Sweet Potato Fries Recipe

Our family loves sweet potatoes—and we frequently use them as side dishes throughout the year.  Sometimes as simple, baked sweet potatoes with cinnamon and brown sugar—other times as mashed sweet potatoes, whipped with butter, cinnamon and brown sugar for dinner.  Sometimes, we use sweet potatoes in omelet recipes too.  We have tried commercial sweet potato fries with some success—and the brands and options have improved over the years.  We decided to create our own recipe for a sweet and spicy, sweet potato French fry.  We originally wrote this post in 2012 as our letter S entry in the Blogging from A to Z challenge.  I wanted to update it today with new photos and some new ingredient recommendations.  What is my go-to recipe for Oven Baked Sweet Potato Fries?

Oven Baked Sweet Potato Fries Ingredients
2 Large Sweet Potatoes, peeled and cut into fries of desired size and shape
2 Tbsp. Extra Virgin Olive Oil (I use Kirkland Organic Olive Oil)
¼ tsp. Salt
½ tsp. Garlic Powder
¼ tsp. Ground Black Pepper
½ tsp. Paprika (I use Simply Organic Paprika or McCormick Paprika)
½ tsp. Cumin (I use Simply Organic Cumin or McCormick Cumin)
1 tsp. Dark Brown Sugar

Instructions for Oven Baked Sweet Potato Fries

Prepare oven and baking sheet.  Preheat oven to 425F.  Lightly spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray.

Oil and season sweet potato fries.  Add the cut sweet potatoes to a large zippered plastic storage bag or to a lidded bowl.  Add oil and shake potatoes to coat.  Combine seasonings in a small mixing bowl and stir to combine.  Pour seasoning mixture into bag of oiled sweet potatoes.

Bake.  Spread potatoes onto prepared baking sheet and bake for 35-40 minutes or until sweet potatoes are tender on the inside and have the desired crispness on the outside. Plan to turn potatoes every 10 minutes during baking to allow for even cooking.

Serve warm.

  1. I fix regular potatoes this way sometimes. I keep forgetting about sweet potatoes. I'm trying to visit all the A-Z Challenge blogs this month. My alphabet is at myqualityday.blogspot.com

  2. The best thing to enjoy sweet potato fries is bake them. We can get the crisp, while on the other hand we don't need to be afraid with the high calories usually contained in deep fried fries. Great post.
