Book Review: Tangled Up in Trouble by Olivia Hardin

I am pretty selective in the books that I choose to review here in my little corner of the world.  For the most part--I am generally sure that I will like the book--either from previous experience with an author or, what I call, my "Book Selecting 6th Sense".  When I was offered a copy of Olivia Hardin's Tangled Up in Trouble to review--I quickly added it to my list.  I rarely read supernatural novels--but, there was something about the description that caught my interest.  What did I think of Tangled Up in Trouble?

Quick summary of Tangled Up in Trouble.  Lynlee Lincoln is a witch with twist.  Not only does she balance life as a witch in the human world--but, she also "works" as a Neutralizer--trying to keep magical and undead clients out of trouble.  Throw in a human love interest, his ready made family, and Lynlee's latest Neutralizer task:  investigating a dark witch--and Lynlee's life becomes a wild and dangerous juggling act.  Tangled Up in Trouble is the second book in the series.  The first book Trolling for Trouble is now FREE if you would like to start at the beginning of the series!

Tangled Up in Trouble is a great combination of both worlds.  I am not a huge supernatural/witch/vampire/undead fan--but, the premise of Tangled Up in Trouble was a lot more than just another book about a witch.  Lynlee walks the fine line between her two worlds--with varying levels of success and disaster at times.  I was as interested in the emotional story lines as in the supernatural action.  Hardin serves up believable characters--in both realms of the story.  Women struggle to balance home and work and general life--and Hardin very successfully adds  supernatural dimensions to Lynlee's life to further complicate things!

Would I recommend Tangled Up in Trouble?  Yes.  Even if witches and the undead are not your usual favorites--give the story a try because it's a little more complex than just a superficial, supernatural battle of good vs. evil.  I like Olivia's writing style a lot--she keeps enough of the real world in the book to keep even the surreal a little more reasonable.  I do wish I had read Trolling for Trouble first.   I will say though that Hardin did a nice job offering just enough details from book one that I was never lost or confused--I just would have liked to have known more about the situations that brought the characters to their current places in life.

About the Author
When Olivia Hardin began having strange movie-like dreams in her teens, she had no choice but to begin putting them to paper. Before long the writing bug had her and she knew she wanted to be a published author. Several rejections plus a little bit of life later, and she was temporarily “cured” of the urge to write. That is until she met a group of talented and fabulous writers who gave her the direction and encouragement she needed to get lost in the words again. Olivia’s attended three different universities over the years and toyed with majors in Computer Technology, English, History and Geology. Thenl one day she heard the term road scholar and she knew that was what she wanted to be. Now she “studies” anything and everything just for the joy of learning. She's also an insatiable crafter who only completes about 1 out of 5 projects, a jogger who hates to run, and she’s sometimes accused of being artistic.

A native Texas girl, Olivia lives in the beautiful Lone Star state with her husband, Danny and their puppy, Bonnie.
