Family Travel: Easier Road Trips with Chevrolet's 4G LTE Wi-Fi in Vehicles

My family spends a lot of time in the car. Whether we are traveling to a dance competition or another extra-curricular activity for the girls, or venturing off on a work or travel assignment, we seem to find ourselves on frequent, often weekly, road trips. Life doesn't stop (or slow down) as we travel. The girls still have homework, mostly via online class portal and websites, and my husband and I frequently work from our phones and laptops as we travel. We visit some remote destinations at times and Internet access is not always easily accessed. I just discovered that Chevrolet launched 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity in several Chevrolet vehicle models. 4G LTEWi-Fi loaded in the car? I can only smile as I imagine how that would change our road trips!

Road trip homework battles would disappear. So many times, we arrive at the hotel only to have a few hours of time for homework before bedtime or before heading out to a destination or event. Many weekends find us finishing up homework late on a Sunday night when we are all too tired for it! If the girls could use their iPods and iPads—or even a laptop—and connect to the Internet while driving in the car, they could head to the pool instead of to the hotel room or the business center.

Using the smartphone is often more headache than help when traveling. Our smartphone provider's coverage becomes hit and miss when we travel—and when the connection speed drops to 1G or even 2G, we simply cannot do the things we need to do. Chevrolet OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi would be such a convenience as it offers onboard connectivity with a stronger, more reliable signal and faster connection for up to seven electronic devices. The girls are never able to play math games or even get many websites to load. A reliable 4G LTE Wi-Fi connection in the car would save so much time!

4G Wi-Fi connectivity would make spontaneous travel so much easier. We find ourselves exploring a lot of small towns and searching blindly for family-owned restaurants or local attractions on the spot when schedules change or time allows for an extra stop or two. When the smartphone loses signal or takes five minutes to connect for a restaurant search, we find ourselves frustrated and irritated instead of relaxed and exploring something fun and new.

My family needs to be "connected." With our schedules, activities and changes in both our daughters' educational programs and our work expectations—being connected is something necessary—not just desirable. With 4G LTE Wi-Fi in the car we could accomplish our to-do lists and have more time for fun and down-time on our trips without worrying about finding time (and a decent internet connection) to get everything done!

We thought our car was "loaded" with options. When we bought our car a few years ago—it was loaded with the latest and the greatest options. While onboard 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity is certainly intended for use by passengers or drivers while parked—the concept is one that would make road trips for families so much easier. It may be time to go car shopping with some upgraded expectations!
Chevrolet is merging the physical freedom of the car with the virtual freedom of Wi-Fi to become the first and only car company to bring built in 4G LTE Wi-Fi to the largest vehicle line-up.
