Wordless Wednesday Link-Up: Hiking at Cantwell Cliffs in Ohio's Hocking Hills

How did we spend Labor Day this year?  We hiked the rim and gorge at Cantwell Cliffs in Ohio's Hocking Hills area. My husband and I had never visited the site before--although we had driven by signs for it many times over the years.  This was, by far, the most difficult hike that the girls have done with us.  It was a great morning hike--and I thought I would share a few of our photos from the adventure for this week's Wordless Wednesday link-up.

Enjoy and don't forget to link up your latest Wordless Wednesday posts at the end!

Recessed Caves and Crevices Galore

I love rock formations--and find something new to love every time we visit the Hocking Hills.  Cliffs, ledges, recessed caves, crevices make me happy.

 One Step at a Time
We were forced to take our time and enjoy nature during this hike! Those steps were pretty tough going--both up and down--but, not really scary until we looked at them from above! One step at a time. One careful step at a time.

One Big Natural Obstacle Course

Fallen trees, roots, jagged rocks, water to cross by walking across fallen trees or log britches, slippery stairs, made it a slow trip!  The girls had to pay attention to their surroundings and literally plan each step in spots!

We Made our Exit Through The Fat Woman's Squeeze
One "exit" from the lower levels is a passage that narrows to about a foot wide through the rock, known as the "fat woman's squeeze"--with narrow stairs in both length and width (my size 7 shoe was about 3 inches too long for each step).  No room for claustrophobia or even much of a backpack!  Narrow and steep--but, the girls were just happy to have walls to hold onto finally!

It was a great morning and, although we were all a little dirty (one little one of us a little dirtier than the rest), hot and tired--we were all planning our next adventure on the drive home!
