Book Review: White Night by Kathi Haacke Morehead

White Night BookCover croppedWhen I was offered the opportunity to read and review White Night by Kathi Haacke Morehead; I wasn't sure what to expect.  The book's cover was a little vague--as was the synopsis.  This new year; however, is a all about lessons learned and refocusing on life--so the mysteries of the book caught my interest.  What did I think of White Night?

I received a complimentary copy of this book for use in my review. All opinions are my own.

Quick summary of White Night.  Joanna Anderson Campbell lived the perfect life ... loving daughter and sister, loyal friend, faithful wife, and devoted mother. She was happy and content. What more could she have asked for? Life could not have been better. At least ... that's what she believed. Until she died.

Can death teach the most valuable lessons about life? Jo Campbell is about to find out.

White Night takes readers on a very emotional journey.  As we move through the book's pages, and the pages of Joanna's life; we board an emotional roller coaster.  Some books claim to make readers laugh and cry--but, this one pulls it off in grand form.  Morehead's writing style allows for both a little sarcastic banter between Jo and her Soul to lighten the storyline between Jo's emotional memories and life reflections.  I cried.   I can't say they were "sad" tears....just emotional tears as the book brought me to my own realizations (and through a few of my own reflections.) Books rarely bring me to tears--but, the emotions which Morehead is able to elicit with her words caught me during the first chapter and kept me past the last page.

Would I recommend White Night?  I haven't read a more inspirational, thought provoking, book of fiction in a long, long time.  Most of the time, I close a book with a lingering thought or two, a smile, or a slightly new idea or perspective.  The thoughts and emotions inspired by White Night are much deeper than that.  White Night is a beautiful story with wonderful characters.  I know that I will be seeking out more of Morehead's writing.  White Night was an unexpected surprise.

  3. Nice reviews on the book. Thanks for stopping by. Unfortunately, WP threw your comment into my spam folder and the only reason I can think of it doing this is because your site has a lot of ad banners attached to it. I just thought I'd mention this to just in case you discover return traffic is slow. It might be due to other site platforms are auto-blocking your comments, too. Have a good day! :D
