The first time I mentioned coleslaw on a cheeseburger, I was met with a rather strange look from my husband. It was surprising to me that he, who was generally willing to try any unusual concoction of ingredients, would be hesitant to try something so "common" for me. Growing up, I loved the "slawburgers" from our local "dairy corner"--and I wasn't even a really big coleslaw fan! There are so many variations of the slaw burger; but, this simple slaw burger recipe is still my family's favorite.

Ingredients for our Old Fashioned Slaw Burger Recipe
1 Pound Ground Chuck, Divided and Shaped into 4 Patties
McCormick Grill Mates Montreal Steak Seasoning
Ground Black Pepper
4 Slices Cheddar Cheese
2 c. Cole Slaw (You can get my recipe HERE.)
Dill Pickle Slices
Sliced Red or Yellow Onion
4 Hamburger Buns
Instructions for our Old Fashioned Slaw Burger Recipe
Prepare the Coleslaw. I use a variation of my Grandma's Coleslaw recipe on my slaw burgers. You may use your favorite coleslaw recipe--or give ours a try! Chill the coleslaw for at least 30 minutes before topping the burgers with it!
Grill the Hamburgers. Sprinkle both sides of your burger patties with Montreal Steak Seasoning and black pepper. Grill over medium/high heat until your burgers reach the desired done-ness. Our girls prefer their burgers well done--so we grill the first side for about 5 minutes and the second for 5-7 minutes. Add a slice of cheddar cheese to each burger and allow the cheese to melt.
Build the Old Fashioned Slaw Burgers. Place a burger on the bottom half of each hamburger bun. Top with about 1/2 c. coleslaw, dill pickle sliced, onion--and the bun top.
Serve. We serve these warm with chips or sweet potato fries.
