The Perfect Tear by Connie Lansberg Book Review and Giveaway

The little girl in me loves fairy tales and fantasy novels. The first book by Connie Lansberg, caught my interest immediately as it presented a unique blend of themes. What was my review of The Perfect Tear by Connie Lansberg?

I received a copy of this book from the author or publisher for use in my review. All opinions are my own.

Quick Summary of The Perfect Tear by Connie Lansberg. Eleanor, a timid orphan, has no clue to her real purpose, but she also has no desire to become a subservient old maid, like the miserable nuns she is forced to with. Eleanor believes Edward, whom she loves, will save her from being forced to take vows. She knows Mother Superior has no intention of letting her leave–her songs are the only thing keeping the grey mist at bay. Her devastation is complete when she discovers Edward is a prince and heir to the throne, but it is the impetus she needs to leave the safety of the abbey and go in search of her long lost father.

She doesn’t get far before discovering her true destiny. With only her instincts to protect her, she must match wits with a powerful being intent on the destruction of her world. If she does not find The Perfect Tear and release its healing power into the land, she will become an accomplice in the destruction of all she loves.

Lansberg creates a very intricate story in The Perfect Tear.  As the plot moves along, readers find themselves drawn into changing settings--with very different themes at times. The story is presented from varying points of views in scenes ranging from science fiction to fantasy to historical fiction--with elements of each lingering a bit at times. The Perfect Tear is written in a very unique format. So much so that, while I can call it a young adult novel--I'm hesitant to label it as only one written genre.

The Perfect Tear is an action packed story--with an eclectic mix of characters. The author does a wonderful job keeping the story lines moving through action/adventure loaded pages. I certainly had a favorite character to two--and found myself rooting for and against characters throughout the story--but, they were all somewhat different in their own ways and I didn't really develop an attachment to some of them.

Would I recommend The Perfect Tear? This was a unique blend of supernatural and science fiction with a fairy tale feel. I enjoyed the story and I do think that teens and young adults would be interested in the plot line. This wasn't a book that I found to be a page turner for me. I stopped and started a few times. I wasn't 100% hooked on all of the adventures or invested into all of the characters' roles. While the story has a fairly solid conclusion, the author leaves some room for a sequel. I did enjoy this book--it was a unique twist on my usual young adult fantasy reads--and I would be interested in reading more from this author.
