Overwhelmed Writer Rescue is not just for writers. While the resources, tips, suggestions and advice in the is book are geared toward writers and creative minds--they hold value for any reader struggling with time management and/or procrastination issues. Within the first few pages, I was sharing points of the book with my husband. He is not a writer--but, has a number of projects that he works on beyond his "day job". Like so many of us; he struggles to find time to complete everything that he must do in a day--and rarely finds that time for the list of things he would like to do! This book is packed with tips to help the overwhelmed--really no matter the field of employment or creative activity of interest!
Story offers much more than time management tips in Overwhelmed Writer Rescue. The author explores a lot of life areas in this book in a very neat and orderly fashion. Readers will learn about distractions (and have the opportunity to examine their own personal productivity distractions), readers will learn about decision making and choices, self care, finding and maintaining motivation--and developing the perseverance needed to keep pushing through toward those life and project goals. Each reader has the option to fully utilize this book's potential for his or her individual needs and goals through the many worksheets and exercises presented throughout the book. Plan to take notes, write in the available prompts and worksheets and make this book work for you.
Would I recommend Overwhelmed Writer Rescue by Colleen M. Story? I will admit that I do really (really, really) struggle to find time these days to write anything beyond my daily required assignments and tasks. (I use many of the excuses noted in Colleen's book to justify not writing!) I also have a number of creative projects beyond writing that I would love to complete (refinishing a dining room set, painting and woodworking projects, etc.)--but, am too overwhelmed with the day to day operations of life that I simply never get around to them! I love the advice offered in this book--and I especially love that it is written in a manner that allows me to "tweak" the messages toward my own needs and goals. While this is a wonderful resource for writers and creators--it's also a wonderful resource for any of us struggling with overwhelming, activity filled, chaotic days! I love the author's writing style and her practical, realistic tips. I think anyone could benefit from the self help nature of this book. If you are a note-taker--consider buying the paperback version so that you are readily able to jot notes and thoughts or answer the various questions as you work through the book.
