About the Movie

When fifteen-year-old Tyson attends public school for the first time, his
life is changed forever. While helping his father clean up after the football team,
Tyson befriends champion marathon runner Aklilu. Never letting his autism hold him
back, Tyson becomes determined to run his first marathon in hopes of winning his
father's approval.

With the help of an unlikely friend and his parents, Tyson learns that with faith in
yourself and the courage to take the first step, anything is possible.

My Review of Tyson's Run

Tyson's Run Brings Relatable Family Friendly Entertainment to the Screen.  The movie is PG-rated--but is mostly clean and fairly realistically presented from the high school setting.  Kids can be mean--and some of the students that Tyson meets are bullies.  While Tyson certainly faces challenges heading off to a traditional high school as a student with autism--he grows and overcomes so much during the film.  I remember trying to please my mother as a high school student--and feeling that I fell short as she generally wanted an athletic cheerleader, and I was the bookish musician type.  I also see our teen daughters try to find a happy medium between their own goals and interests and what they view as my or my husband's expectations for them. Parents and teens will relate to the characters of this movie from beginning to end!

Tyson's Run is Inspirational and Comfortably Predictable.  In many ways, Tyson's Run brings the usual, family-friendly style "conquering the odds" type drama to viewers.  If you enjoy watching a family grow, learn and accept their paths--you will love the outcomes of this movie.  Additionally, if you want inspirational journeys through complex realities--this is an enjoyable film from that front as well.

Would I Recommend Tyson's Run?  I enjoyed the movie.  It isn't an overly emotional tear-jerker--but it will tug at the heartstrings as Tyson pushes forward and his family and friends invest in his efforts.  Tyson's Run is an entertaining film for fans of family dramas and feel-good movies that show characters striving for goals and challenging stereotypes.  I would recommend it as a family movie night outing with tween/teen children.  It may even inspire some conversations and realizations about the expectations and dynamics at play in your own family.
