The author invites readers in each chapter to explore God's presence through well-thought-out Biblical teachings related to Bible passages and stories. Once she introduces a passage and story that expands on the flowing of God's presence, she shares her personal story related to the teaching before encouraging readers to delve deeper into their own relationship with God and the Bible through thought-provoking meditation prompts. The author has a very easy-to-read, easy-to-understand teaching method as she creates a nice blend of Bible study, devotional, and self-reflection/self-study opportunities in each chapter for readers.
Don't expect to read this book from cover to cover in a day. This book isn't something you should expect to read and contemplate in a day. In fact, the messages and meditation prompts are written, so that I will be using this book for journaling and spiritual reflection for quite some time. While the passages and stories will remain the same--my experiences and spiritual views will change and grow, making the meditation prompts useful again and again.
Would I recommend The River of God's Presence by Jeannine Rodriguez-Everard? I often pick up devotionals, and spiritual "self-help" books with Bible reflection prompts--and have struggled to find a style that I like and find effective for my own use. I really like the organization of this book and the down-to-Earth, easy-to-read flow of the author's ideas and suggestions. If you seek to strengthen or re-develop your connection to God and reflect on His presence in various ways in your life--this is a book that I would definitely add to your spiritual reading list. Plan to dedicate a reflection journal to use with this book, and take advantage of the resources and suggestions the author shares throughout the book and in the end sections. The River of God's Presence is a book I will keep using again and again since the teachings are timeless, and the prompts will grow with me.
