My Review

Expect a Book Filled with Life Lessons. Dr. Farooq does a wonderful job presenting Aesop's stories, including the realism and darkness of the tales, while also offering clear takeaway lessons with each one.  I think it's important to realize that these quick stories aren't fairy tales with happy endings--they are a compilation of stories designed to incorporate some very real-world lessons with pieces of life. While the stories are intended to entertain, they are also thought-provoking and educational in short bursts.

Lifelike illustrations Accompany Each Story. The images in this little book are very realistic, showing emotions and expressing unspoken details in each scene. Some of the stories are somewhat dark (like The Goose and the Golden Eggs or The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing), so the accompanying images are rather dark as well.  The images offer a lot of opportunity to discuss the emotions and significance of each story--but, may also be somewhat frightening or too realistic for more sensitive children as well.

Would I Recommend The Boy Who Cried Wolf? This book captures the original stories quite well and updates them a bit to offer clear lessons relatable to modern life. The retellings do not sugarcoat the scenes, so there is a lot to discuss on the pages of this book. If you enjoy Aesop's stories and want a modern look at the tales, this is a great collection of these stories for you.
