I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked up a copy of Rye Must Die by authors Dakota Madison and Savannah Young. After hearing a number of positive comments about the book; I decided to give it a chance. I actually had to laugh yesterday as one of my daughters noticed the title of the book I was reading. "Hmm..Very Uplifting." She commented with an eye roll. While the title was, admittedly, not very uplifting--what did I think of Rye Must Die?Quick Summary of Rye Must Die. There’s a fine line between sexy alpha and creepy stalker…and Rye has crossed it. Izzy Grant is supposed to be dead, suicide by hanging. But when she regains consciousness she’s still alive and still the crazy girl everyone in Old Town loves to hate. But one thing had changed. He saved her life, a shadowy figure wearing all black and riding a motorcycle. Now he’s following Izzy. She doesn’t know why, but she’s eager to find out. Rye Must Die is not as dark as the title implies. First of all--this novella is truly a romantic comedy. The constant dialogue between the characters--and the main character's personal thoughts--do make the story fun. Some of the humor is eye-roll worthy--but, it does create a lighter mood to the overall, paranormal story line.
The Characters are too Fun to Dislike. While the instant relationship between Max and Izzy needed to be taken with a grain of salt--the interractions between them and the supporting characters kept the story fun and entertaining. The story is a quick, easy to read story with characters who are just too likable to be put aside.
Would I recommend Rye Must Die? It's a cute, fun story that sets the tone for future installments of the Izzy and Max series. I would recommend it to romantic comedy/ paranormal fans--and I will certainly read more of the series in the future. I enjoyed the characters and was entertained by the novella.
