If you visit us with any regularity in our little corner of the world, you know that Max is a frequent feature here on the blog. Whether he's popping up in a Wordless Wednesday or joining the family on a travel review; Mister Maxi is a very important member of the Mama's Corner of the World team. It seems that only yesterday we adopted this little guy from the animal shelter--but, it has been 7 years already!
While we still call him "the baby"--he has officially entered his senior years of a dog's lifespan. When we had to opportunity to allow Max to sample and review Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+ ® ; dog food--we were curious whether we would notice any changes in his behavior. What does Max (and the family) think of Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND dog food?
First--let me tell you a little bit about the Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND dog food formula. According to experts at Purina Pro Plan, around age seven, the glucose metabolism in a dog’s brain begins to change, which can affect memory, learning, awareness or decision making.
Purina Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+ formulas contain enhanced botanical oils shown to promote alertness and mental sharpness in dogs seven and older with visible results within 30 days.
Owners who feed their senior dogs Purina Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+ as a daily diet may notice differences in owner-dog interac5on, interest in play and the ability to adapt and cope with change.
Why make a switch to a new dry food formula? Max was a wild man when he was a puppy! He turned our upstairs into a racetrack and didn't miss a sound or an opportunity to play. He has certainly slowed down a bit over the years! These days; you are more likely to find him napping like a senior dog than playing like a puppy!
While we have not yet tried Pro Plan BRIGHT MINDS for the full 30 days; we would like to share our experiences so far!
Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND is available at PetSmart--and we found the product quickly and easily in our local PetSmart store.
Max seemed to enjoy the flavor--and even went so far as to leave bits of his regular dog food behind in the bowl as we mixed in the BRIGHT MIND food for a couple of weeks to transition him to the new food!
Have we noticed any changes in Max's behavior since he began eating Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND? A week before we began our trial, Max injured his knee running up the stairs. In spite of the fact that we have been restricting his physical activity a bit; we have noticed a brighter look in his eyes and a little more interest in teasing the cats and joining in on family activities since we changed his diet. I will certainly be interested in seeing how he does over the next several weeks as he continues with this food.
Would I recommend Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND? I do feel that Max has regained a little of the bright-eyed spark that he held as an ornery puppy since we switched him to the BRIGHT MIND food. He just seems livelier and more interested in day-to-day activities. I do plan to continue to feed him this formula and I will update this post once we have been able to review the product longer. I do believe that an aging pet has different nutrition needs than younger dogs and I want to keep Max alert, healthy and happy as long as I can!
