On the Grill: Foil Packet Grilled Apple Dessert Recipe

We just passed Labor Day, but, we aren't likely to pack away the grill anytime soon.  In Ohio, you may have as many opportunities to grill in November (and sometimes even February) as you do during the summer months!  In the fall, we always have a lot of apples on hand.  Whether the apples come from our backyard trees or local apple orchards, we use a lot of apples!  Our apples are almost ripe and ready to pick--but, we had many apples fall to the ground this week during a thunderstorm--so, we had to pick up apples rather than pick them from the trees!  We had a couple of bags full of apples from the ground to turn into recipes this weekend!

Since we were grilling anyway--we decided it was only fitting to create a quick dessert from some grilled apples in foil packets.  What was our Grilled Apple Dessert recipe this Labor Day weekend?

Ingredients for our Foil Packet Grilled Apple Dessert
2 c. Apples, Peeled and Thinly Sliced
2 Tbsp. Butter, cut into small pieces
2 tsp. Ground Cinnamon, we use Simply Organic Ground Cinnamon
1/4 c.  Light Brown Sugar
1/4 c. Chopped Walnuts

Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
Whipped Cream (optional)
Extra Cinnamon (optional)

Instructions for our Foil Packet Grilled Apple Dessert

Preheat the Grill.  Heat the grill to medium heat.

Prepare the Foil Packet.  Tear off approximately an 18x12 inch rectangle of heavy duty, aluminum foil.  Lightly spray it with a butter flavored cooking spray and set aside.

Spice the apples.  In a large mixing bowl, add the apples, cinnamon and brown sugar.  Toss the apples to coat.

Build the foil packet grilled apples.  Place the spiced apples along the center of the foil packet.   Top with the diced butter pieces and walnuts.  Pull the aluminum foil edges up to meat in the middle and create a double folded crease down the center of the packet.  Fold up the open ends to seal.

Grill the apples.  Grill for approximately 10-15 minutes or until apples are tender.

Serve your foil packet grilled apple dessert.  Place scoops of vanilla bean ice cream into dessert bowls.  Top with 1/4 of the apple walnut mixture--making sure to scoop up some of the liquid.  Serve garnished with extra cinnamon and whipped cream,  if desired.
