The living room, the one room in the house where we do our absolute best to keep it clean--and leap to lift the mud off the carpet as soon as it’s walked in. That’s not to say we neglect the other areas of our home, just think of the amount of hours we log into the bathroom! No, it’s just that visitors frequent our front rooms, as well as our families, for the most part of the day, and we host parties and spend dinners mingling there if it’s big enough. That means we need to find a quicker way to keep it in tip top shape. Here are some tips for making the daily, or weekly, cleaning the living room take 10 to 15 minutes tops.
Use Under Sofa Storage
Pick up some boxes on the way home that you know will fit under your sofa space, if you have one, and then grab together everything that doesn’t belong in the living room and shove it into them! It’s a quick and easy way to clean up a coffee table, or finally shift the mess behind the sofa and still keep track of everything that was once there. No longer can your family complain that can’t find something, or that you threw something away that they needed when it’s in a box they can easily pull out from under where they’re sitting!
Even better: get the kids to sort out their own stuff in the boxes and tidy them away in their rooms! That way you get a couple extra minutes either sitting down yourself or devoted to some work you desperately need to get done.
Quickly Dust Things Off
You don’t need to break out the polish everyday, just shift some of the dust that can collect with the sun and brush it onto the floor. Don’t worry, you’ll be running a quick vacuum session later to take care of that.
Stack your papers and other stuff in a quick 2 minute rearrangement to keep the area looking fresh, and to expose any dust you didn’t see the first time around.
Get a Good Vacuum
A good vacuum is the cornerstone of having a fresh and tidy carpet. It makes the job a lot easier with the powerful suction and is easy to maneuver for anyone handling it. Plus it takes care of the shedded pet hair immediately!
However, buying new tech isn’t the easiest thing to do! Look for more info on the best brands to buy, and also what’s the cheapest among them. So often, when we walk straight into a store, we’re not going to immediately know what is what, no matter how practiced we are.
Truth be told, you don’t need to clean up everyday, but it does make us feel a lot better about our environment if we do. However, don’t devote all your daily energy to it, and leave a day at the end of the week to go over the room properly.
