About the Book

Have you ever wished you could go away on your parent’s business trip or hide in their suitcase to explore a new city all on your own? Well, Katie and Steven sure have! They wonder why they always have to stay home when Mommy or Daddy travel for work. Once their favorite yellow teddy, Tootsie, comes up with the idea to stow himself away for Daddy’s trip to Washington, DC, Katie and Steven realize that they’ll be able to travel along, too—but just not in the way they first imagine!

My Review

Traveling Tootsie Offers a Fun Idea for Children with Parents Traveling for Work. I know that my daughters were never fans of my husband or me traveling for work or a getaway weekend without them! This book is a fun, creative way for little ones to learn about a popular travel destination and even apply the idea to their own life when their parents travel. As Katie and Steven experience Washington DC through Traveling Tootsie's imaginative adventure--they may inspire little ones struggling with parent travel to do the same sort of thing.

Simple Illustrations and Easy-to-Read Pages Highlight Tootsie's Travels. The illustrations are simple as Tootsie travels to the tourist attractions of Washington, DC. It is fun for little ones to find Tootsie on the pages and learn a little about the city and its attractions.

Would I Recommend Traveling Tootsie? I love this book's basis and hope it becomes a series highlighting the many larger cities parents frequently travel to for work trips. The story is best suited as a read along with parents and caregivers who can supplement the simple introductions to the many attractions with more details or insights. The book gives a fun way for younger elementary-aged kids to explore and pretend to share in the work travel adventures of a parent traveling to Washington, DC.

Kathy and Karen grew up in the Chicago suburbs and moved to Virginia as teenagers. They enjoyed many family vacations, which began their love of travel. They both reside in Virginia with their families and continue to instill a love of travel with their own children. This is their first children’s book written together, about a favorite childhood memory that they always wanted to share with others to enjoy. They hope to inspire a sense of adventure in you!
