My Review
Giordano Crafts an Excellent International Thriller in Appointment with ISIL. While I love the intrigue of an international thriller or a political/crime thriller--I often find that they can be a bit drawn out or so overly wordy or ridiculously complex that I struggle to maintain interest. During every step of Provati's journey; however, I felt included and invested in the book. I fell into the settings and the changing plots and into the action quickly and easily from the very first page. Readers are transported to other countries, are immersed into a variety of cultures and meet a host of characters as the book's story line unfolds. The author does a wonderful job in creating his settings and telling the story in such a way that readers will find it believable, exciting and engaging.
Provati's Adventures Include More than ISIL Scenes. I almost opted to not read and review this book. I was expecting a full book of ISIL interaction and terrorist plots--and terror related crimes. The first chapter of the book began as I expected--but, the author's writing style pulled me into the story anyway. As the second chapter began, I realized that this novel was much more involved than just an appointment with ISIL. The author employs a number of plots and subplots to take the reader on multiple adventures with his characters. Of course, there is a terrorist group element that is key to the story and the book moves the readers toward that connection in some unexpected ways at times.
Would I recommend Appointment with ISIL by Joe Giordano? I enjoy thrillers and I enjoy international/political/crime dramas. This book is one of the best that I've read this year. The author takes real-world, current issues and creates a very intricate book without making it too complex for a reader to enjoy. If you enjoy a book that transports you to worldly places and into dangerous situations in a more reasonable, realistic fashion; this book should be on your reading list this summer. I look forward to reading more books from this author and enjoying future adventures with Anthony Provati.
